One of my favorite things about living in New York is the changing seasons. I know there are people out there who prefer more temperate climates, but, as someone born and raised in the northeast, I thrive on these changing weather patterns. Especially now, as the air begins to cool down after a long, hot summer, I’m excited for all that this autumn has in store!
The changing weather also brings with it the opportunity to enjoy a new round of seasonal treats and activities. Because of the coronavirus pandemic, I had to forgo many of my favorite summertime traditions this year. Determined to not let that happen as we move into the fall, I’ve developed the Fun and Frugal Fall Bucket List, a collection of autumnal activities designed to help make the most of the season. To account for current circumstances, most of these activities can be completed at home, for little to no cost. The list includes:
Watch Scary Movies
If you’re a fan of scary movies, then fall is your time to shine. Nothing sparks the Halloween spirit quite like a horror film or two, and it’s now easier than ever to access some of the best—right from your couch. Classic films such as Scream and Psycho are currently streaming for free on Tubi and Peacock respectively, and, on the paid front, there are endless options available on Netflix or Hulu.
Take a Fall Walk
A leisurely walk outdoors is truly one of the greatest fall activities, and it’s absolutely FREE! Enjoy the crisp air, the changing leaves, and maybe even some Halloween decorations around your neighborhood, all while taking a moment to breathe and clear your mind. If you’re looking to up the Halloween factor, consider listening to a spooky podcast while enjoying your stroll.
Wear Your Favorite Sweater
What they say is true: sweater weather is better weather. Even living on a tight budget, sweaters are my weakness; I’m always catching myself digitally window-shopping for them online, and I’ve had to talk myself out of buying yet another new one more than once. This year, I’m excited to dig through my closet and find some fresh ways to wear the sweaters I already own and love.
Make a “Thankful” List
Fall tends to be dominated by Halloween, with Thanksgiving getting increasingly lumped into the “end-of-the-year” holiday season. But with pumpkin pie a staple at many a Thanksgiving dinner, it still has its roots in autumn. Take some time to list the things you’re thankful for, and maybe even consider sharing that list with those you love. Now more than ever, it’s important that we don’t take our blessings for granted.
This is just a sampling of what’s included in the Fun and Frugal Fall Bucket List. Check out the full list below, and start making the most of the season today!
